-average to poor soil located in full son
-well drained, does not do well in hot and humid weather
-cut back after flowering has ended
-clumps can be divided in spring or fall
-cuttings can be rooted in summer

Use

-low growing perennial provides colorful ground cover that blooms from May to June
-resistant to drought

-small lanced shaped leaves
-contain bright pike clusters of loosely packed flowers

Interesting Facts

-was used in treating skin disorders and poison ivy
-soaplike lather is still used to restore the color and shine of old china
