Abstract:
The Ravenna Two learning community utilized PDAs as multifunctional field tools in a stream study. Geographic and analytical computer programs were downloaded to each PDA for field reference. Field notes, chemical and physical measurements were recorded on individual PDAs and later compiled on a computer. Biological samples
were processed in the lab. Data was organized into a spreadsheet program to generate graphs, charts and scientific discussion. National and State environmental indices were applied by the learning community to predict stream health. Through student enactment of the scientific process, we accomplished the goals of the Ohio State Science Curriculum.
