Program Leaders
The Biomes of the World program is an extension of the Interdisciplinary German Language and Culture program first organized by Professor Emerita Sigrid Anderson (German) in Spring, 1969. Professor Emeritus David Anderson (Literature) joined the program in 1972. Professor Dennis Taylor (Biology) brought science to the program in 1984. The Biomes of the World 2010 program integrated literature, culture and science components of previous German programs, making this the 13th of the German program series, and the oldest and longest running Study Abroad Program in Hiram's history. It also represents the 9th study abroad program organized and directed by the Andersons and Taylor.

Student Colleagues
The 16 Hiram College students, one Bowodin College student, one University of Southern California student, and one Ursinus College student were selected from applicants on the basis of their desire to engage fully in the program at all times. Because of difficult travel with frequent unplanned changes, students would need to fill the role of young colleagues, sharing the responsibility for the academic success of the program with the professors. Each student demonstrated a genuine interest in learning outside as well as inside the classroom.
