Rain Shadow Desert
A rain shadow desert is formed because of the trade wind and sharp slope of the East Maui volcano. Even tough January is the wettest season of the year, it is relatively dry since all the rain falls as the clouds go over the mountain. The annual rainfall is about 21inches, and the temperature varies between 17.8°-26.7°C. In January, the percentage of daytime sunshine is 69%. Vegetation is sparse, there are some shrubs and a few mosses, lichens and grasses.
