I helped to deconstruct the rock wall by Bonnie Castle. Also helped to carry over the soil for the herb garden and to dig out a bush that was a harmful invasive species in the front of the house.
Components - Working as a group to remove the rocks from the side of the house, thereby enabling the school to put in a good foundation for the wall. Shoveling and sifting through the soil for the herb garden. Digging out the bush in the front of the house so that it will not grow back.
Activities - Actively turning up the soil and rocks, transporting them to a location out of the way of the foundation. Shoveling the soil into wheelbarrows, sifting out all the plants and non-necessary items in it, and taking it to the herb garden. Cutting through ivy, digging out roots of the bush in question and removing them.
Skills - This project has taught me the value of working with a group, over working by myself. I also have a new appreciation for how installations are put into yards, and how those installations may be made so that they last longer and have a decreased impact on the watershed. The aesthetic beauty of over turned soil and all things just beneath the surface of the earth, such as the bugs and odd colors of roots, has become aparent to me as well.
