Hi! My name is Cara Battaglia, and I am a Theatre Arts major. You might be wondering, as many often do, what a Theatre major is doing in a Biology class. I think that sometimes, we forget that not everything is always up to the scientists. Each and every one of us has skills to lend to the task--in this case, learning about and improving the environment.
I've lived in northeast Ohio my entire life, and I enjoy the natural environment. As such, I'd like to keep it in the best shape we can. Ohio is pretty well off in terms of water resources, but I think there is always room for improvement, and for other areas to improve as well. The more we know about our environment, the easier it would be to discover how to work well in other places. As I said, I've lived here my entire life, and I always thought the environment was pretty good! I've already learned in Field Biology that even though we have really great environments compared to other places, we still do a lot of things less effectively than we could. That's another reason I'm here: I dislike unnecessary waste of any kind, and we could definitely be more efficient if only we understood what we're up against.
So, no, I'm not exactly a capital-"s" Scientist, but we're all capable of learning and using what we've learned to reach a common goal. Besides, there are plays written about every subject under the sun, even environmental topics. If I need a direct link to my major or career path (acting, ideally, but anything in a theatre will likely do), there you have it. The theatre encompasses life, and the environment is part of my life. Hopefully we can sustain it, for posterity's sake, and our own.
