This page will allow me to add information learned through Introduction to Field Biology.

Components:

1. Educating public on watersheds via webpage.
2. Learning Ohio River Assesment Method (ORAM) techniques
3. Learning the importance of water in our lives and in the environment

Activities:

1. Building/designing webpage
2. Conducting ORAM assessments
3. Conducting Qualitative Habitat Evaluation Index (QHEI)

Skills:

1. Designing webpage
2. Assessing wetlands
3. Assessing rivers/dams

Major/ Career Path:

I am a biology major with a chemistry minor at Hiram College. I will graduate in May 2013, and plan on attending The Ohio State University Veterinary School for a doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine. Once I graduate I plan on residing in northeastern Ohio, and working as a large-animal (farm animal) veterinarian.

Watershed:

A watershed is an area of land where all of the water that runs down it goes to a major river, ocean, or lake. It is important, because it provides water for organisms to live in, for humans to drink, and for wetlands to grow around. Without watersheds, fresh water would cease to exist, causing many different species of plants and animals to die off, causing agriculture to fail, which in many years would cause humans to die and become extinct. The problem with watersheds today are that the run off water that comes from fields and yards is normally contaminated with fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides. These cause loss in habitat for plants and animals.
