Components/Activities of the Course
The course takes a very pratical approach to learning. We are assigned to small groups in the beginning and contine to work with them throughout the semester. It encourages collaboration and hands-on, do-it-yourself style of experimentation. A lot of time from the class is spent out in the field surveying watersheds and wetlands firsthand. The focus here is on kinesteic learning and learning by experience.
Skills Developed
This course has taught me mutiple new skills in communication and group activities including organizing projects, utilizing members's strong abilities correctly and how to identify and work with others in a close-knit learning community. It has taught me to identify strengths and weaknesses in others and how everyone can contribute to a conclusion or goal. Since i am a management major, these are vital tools I will need later in the corporate work enviornment.
Major career goals
Currently i am studying management as a major and entrepreneurship as a minor. If it were possible, entrepreneurship would be my main study of focus as i'm intrigued by the idea of making you company and creating your own job. My career goals are set high because I have strong expectations and motivation to make myself successful. I expect to move away from Ohio after I graduate and pay off my debt in someplace warm. After I accompish this I will begin my entrepreneurial ventures and, if all goes according to plan, have a profitable company 2 years after graduation.
Watersheds
Watersheds were completely unknown to me before i took this course. However, the material we've studied about watersheds and their importance to the enviornment has taught me their significance in our ecosystem today. It amazes me how oblivious most people are to the kind of toxins and pollutants we dump into our fresh water-which is in a very short supply. The general population should be informed about this problem so we can stop it, not just slow down it's ineviatablitiy.
