The first ISLS Teacher Institute was held at KSU, Hiram and U Akron on June 22-24 and August 4-5. The program funded by the Akron Hub STEM school through the Ohio STEM Learning Network included 11 alumni teachers from the 2007-2009 ISLS STEM Academies and 24 new teachers. The focus of the program was to pioneer the development of teacher institutes that model the ISLS hands-on approach tied to the development of innovative curriculum by teachers working in learning communities. The learning communities of teachers are developing lesson plans and learning objects for loading on the Lesson Plan webpages of the ISLS website.
