The theme for the Igniting Streams of Learning in Science Academy centers on the impact of local citizens on the Cuyahoga River Watershed. Each of the ten learning communities participating in the Academy every year produce a learning module related to specific topics of interest in their local communities and school districts related to watersheds. Through these learning modules, the knowledge-base and educational process is far expanded past the 50 students involved in the Academy each year at Hiram College.
The following pages have all been developed by the Learning Communities of ISLS in 2007 and are examples of the far-reaching arms of the educational process and what they can do in a local environment when students have been given the opportunity to learn the right intellectual tools to take matters into their own hands.
The ISLS Academy has allowed the students to take everything they have learned and create learning objects. These learning objects contain information that can be used in their home towns. All the links found on this page can be used by any teachers in the state of Ohio in their own classrooms.
