Classes and Public Workshops

In the summer of 2004 Professors David Anderson, Willard Greenwood and Dennis Taylor offered an Alumni College course entitled on The Garden in Literature incorporating elements of science, literature and poetry related to gardens. The new Weekend College course, Learning Science and Technology through Horticulture, is a direct outcome of activites by the FHG board in 2003. The course is a natural science graduation requirement with a laboratory, and is organized around the theme of gardens as a way to understand topics central to the fields of biology and the science of environmental studies. The course is hands-on with three purposes: teaching content and skills of horticulture as a science; teaching how to use technological tools useful in any science field, and teaching learning tools useful to improving student performance any college course. FHG would like these to be the first of many courses and workshops centered on horticulture and landscapes.
