Laminaria Growth

Project Leader - Alcie Combs - July 2006

We monitored the growth of the large brown algae, Laminaria saccharina, over the course of nine days in two tide pools on the northeast side of Appledore Island, Maine.  During most of those times, we also recorded temperature data every five minutes for both pools and light data for one of the pools. Pool1.jpg Pool 1; notice the large square rock in the center of the pool--that's where we tied the light meter.
